About Yoga Squad

A passion for yoga and a passion to teach

Four individuals with four very different backgrounds joined together to create the Yoga Squad. They had one in thing in common. Their passion for yoga, and their passion to teach.

After searching for months for a property that was suitable we finally came across The Venue. We didn’t want a regular holistic studio, we wanted a space that had character that members would love to visit. We wanted to create a yoga community, a family, a squad inclusive to everyone. It was as if by accident that that was how we came up with the name Yoga Squad.

Melanie Shaw

Melanie Shaw

Melanie Shaw

Mel has worked within the fitness industry for almost 15 years. After graduating in Physical Education Mel became a personal trainer and worked with a range of individuals to achieve their goals. Teaching group exercise has also been a passion of Mel’s and she is qualified in many Les Mills classes including Body Combat, BodyPump and RPM.

Due to a back injury Mel started to participate in Body Balance which she later qualified in. She always thought that exercise had to be high impact and intense but then discovered a love for yoga. Mel found a new love for the holistic style of classes in particular Hot Dynamic Flow which In turn have helped with her injury.

After practicing yoga as a participant she then decided to travel to Thailand where she studied for her 200YTC on the island of Ko Pha Ngan. She is now qualified in Vinyasa, Aerial and Hatha Yoga and has completed a Hands on Assisting course with Dylan Ayaloo to deepen her knowledge . Mel strives to deliver classes that are inclusive and that make people feel good inside and outside.

Sally Flavill

Sally has been a keen exerciser and has participated in group fitness classes for many years. She has completed physical challengers including Tough Mudder and Ultra Marathons. Due to a family bereavement sally decided to take up yoga practice to help her cope with her loss. She was grateful for how yoga made her feel both physically and mentally. After practicing yoga for a few years, Sally then decided to take her practice further and complete her 200YTT at Sampoorna Yoga School in Goa. She is now qualified in Ashtanga Vinyasa and has since completed her Aerial training with Gillian Watt. And the Hands on Assisting course with Dylan Ayaloo.

Sally has come from a slightly different background as her experience was in the care industry where she had the opportunity to run her own nursing home business for many years. With a wonderful team the home was a successful family business and she created a happy community for her residents, she feels very fortunate to have had this time working with wonderful people.

Sally wanted to create the same community here at Yoga Squad. She wants to help everybody that come into the venue by making them feel welcome and help them leave with a smile on their faces.

Caroline Martin

Caroline Martin

Caroline has worked in the fitness industry for over 25 years teaching many different styles of fitness classes. In 2014 she agreed to attend a hot yoga class in Nottingham with a friend. After the first session she was instantly hooked. Caroline started attending classes both before or after work and at the weekends to get her hot yoga fix and noticed the difference yoga made both physically and mentally. She became friends with all the yoga instructors and decided to take the next step and sign up to the 200hr Hot Power Yoga training with Dylan Ayaloo in Clapham, London.

Caroline started teaching weekly yoga classes the day after completing the training in the Nottingham and Chesterfield areas and has continued to develop her yoga knowledge by completing Hands on Assisting, Forrest Yoga workshops and is now certified in both Aerial Yoga and Restorative Aerial. Since completing her initial training she has continued to deepen her yoga knowledge by supporting the delivery of the 200hr teacher training program with Dylan Ayaloo both inside and outside of the UK in her role of production manager.

Yoga has been a major part of Caroline’s life, and the practice has helped her grow stronger and more flexible, both on and off the mat. She will always be a student of the practice and is deeply grateful for the knowledge her teachers have shared with her. Caroline

Chantelle Tucker

Chantelle Tucker

Chantelle is an experienced physiotherapist with over 20 years working in the fitness industry both as a gym instructor and a fitness professional. She has taught a variety of different classes and has a passion to help people both mentally and physically.

Chantelle hit a bump in the road in 2014 and she was recommended yoga as a way to boost her mental health. She was a little unsure at first as she preferred the high intensity ‘sweaty classes’. After experimenting with various yoga styles, she stumbled across hot yoga and became hooked.

In November 2017 Chantelle studied her 200hr Yoga Teaching Training in London with Dylan Ayaloo and has never looked back. Chantelle has continued to develop her Yoga knowledge by completing Hands on Assisting, certified in both Aerial Yoga and Restorative Aerial.

Chantelle has noticed a positive difference in her approach to life and the challenges it can bring and continues to enjoy sharing her yoga practice with others. When Chantelle has free time, she loves to be outdoors and connect with nature.


The Venue

Suite 1 & 2, 48 Millgate, Navigation House,
Newark, NG24 4TS

The Venue is a recently developed former museum located on the riverside. Yoga Squad thought it was a perfect space for teaching classes due to the natural light and riverside views.

We have parking facilities at the venue, both at the front of the building and across the bridge on the other side of the river.

The Studio

Lower Level Aerial Studio
Yoga Squad’s largest studio compromising of 2 levels with a mezzanine. Aerial classes are held on the lower level with plenty of space for members to work freely and safely with the hammocks. The large windows allow for lots of natural light with views of the river. Aerial classes are run with 2 instructors, one teacher and one to help with adjustments so that participants receive the best tuition.

When Aerial classes are not running this large open space has capacity for other classes.

Upper Level Mezzanine
Yoga squads upper level studio runs a variety of classes in this space that do not require heat.

Hot Studio
The hot studio comprises of 4 large heaters allowing for temperatures to rise to 38 degrees. The large windows and high ceilings create a feeling of open space allowing members to practice safely and use the walls for more advanced poses.

The Coffee Mill
Yoga squad has created a comfortable space for members to relax and socialise before or after their classes. We have a riverside patio for members to enjoy in the summer months. With a selection of juices and coffees on offer ....
